IS-281 Incident Support Unit
IS-281 is a 23’ mobile incident support unit that is designed to handle a multitude of support and command functions both in and out of the fire district. The unit has all necessary technology built in including networked computers, printing, fax and e-mail these can be accomplished through an advanced mobile satellite system designed for the unit along with providing a high-speed internet connection it provides satellite phone and television viewing capabilities. VHF and 800MHZ radio communications are also available so whether there’s a major disaster or the unit is in a remote location, communication and information flow can be maintained.
The unit has the ancillary function of being a medical support unit and is assigned in the Federal as well as State ROSS (Resource Ordering Status System) to be deployed to major fires or emergencies as requested. Medically IS-281 is equipped as an ALS (Advanced Life Support) unit with a wide variety of over the counter medications and trauma care equipment. This differs from normal engines and ambulance equipment because the remote locations it will be deployed to may be hours from a drug store or any local services. There are two treatment beds located in the unit along with a sleeping area for crew personnel. It is fully contained with a bathroom cooking facility, generator heating and air conditioning.
The unit carries enough fuel and water to be self sustained for approximately 5 days without any supplies. In the event of a large scale medical emergency or disaster the unit can also deploy a 10’ x 20’ fully enclosed and environmentally controlled treatment tent area designed by Ez-Up.
