Big Bear Firefighters Climb for Leukemia & Lymphoma Society!

IMG 6574BIG BEAR, CA/February 8, 2016 – Big Bear firefighters will compete in the “Scott Firefighter Stairclimb” in Seattle, Washington on March 6, 2016. This is the 7th year Big Bear’s local firefighters have participated in this test of endurance to benefit the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Firefighters will climb 69 flights of stairs in Seattle’s tallest building, the Columbia Center Tower. These participants will be dressed in full gear including self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA), and yet some of the fastest firefighters will complete this task in a brief 10 minutes. Others may take up to 35 minutes, depending on their fitness.

To prepare for this near herculean task of climbing 788 vertical feet, and to jumpstart their fundraising efforts, the team will be throwing a climb-a-thon event in Big Bear’s Vons parking lot, 42170 Big Bear Blvd., on Saturday, February 13, 2016 at 9 a.m. Come see how hard these firefighters work to support this worthy cause as they climb the “stair-stepper” machine in full gear for eight hours straight.

Big Bear firefighters invite the community to come show their support and make a donation to fight blood cancers. Every dollar counts when someone’s life depends on it. Donations can also be made on the team page at www.llswa.org, and click on “Scott Firefighter Stairclimb.”
