Multi Jurisdictional Hazzard Mitigation Plan

The Disaster Mitigation Act of 2000 requires that local governments, as a condition of receiving federal disaster mitigation funds, adopt a mitigation plan describing the process for identifying hazards, risks and vulnerabilities, identify and prioritize mitigation actions, encourage the development of local mitigation and provide technical support for those efforts.

The 2020 Hazard Mitigation Plan is a multi-jurisdictional plan (MJHMP) impacting the City of Big Bear Lake and Big Bear City (Big Bear City Community Services District or CSD) as the Big Bear Fire Authority provides Fire Suppression and prevention services to both jurisdictions. This MJHMP helps identify the needs within the Big Bear Valley to reduce our community’s risk of natural disasters, such as wildfires, earthquakes, flooding, and strong wind storms.

This document is drafted and updated by a team of subject matter experts within the City, CSD, and the Big Bear Fire Authority, with input from the community, and is approved by the California Governor’s Office of Emergency Services (CALoes) and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).
